TCF writing and speaking practice: practise the communication decision

Rehearse introductions, precise questions, explanations, comparisons and supported opinions for TCF Tout public or TCF Canada.

Check your version: France Éducation international currently lists three writing tasks in 60 minutes and a three-task, face-to-face speaking test lasting 12 minutes, including two minutes of preparation, for the versions discussed here. Consult the official TCF Tout public or TCF Canada page before practising.

FKE is independent practice. It does not reproduce official prompts or predict a score. TCF Canada has four compulsory components; in TCF Tout public, speaking and writing can be additional modules depending on the candidate’s purpose.

Speaking: three transferable jobs

Give a point of viewState a position, develop reasons, acknowledge a limit where useful and conclude.Companion

Practice routine: speak once without notes. On a second attempt, write only three anchors—position, one concrete example and closing. Do not memorise a universal script; the interlocutor and question decide the register and content.

Writing: know which version you are taking

For TCF Canada, France Éducation international currently describes three tasks:

  1. 60–120 words: a message that describes, recounts and/or explains something to a named recipient.
  2. 120–150 words: an article, letter, note or similar account that includes comments, opinions or arguments.
  3. 120–180 words: a text comparing two viewpoints from two documents and giving your own position.

TCF Tout public also has three writing tasks in 60 minutes, but do not treat the Canada word ranges as universal. Follow the official material for the version you registered for.

Original FKE writing targets

Communication decisionPractice topicsWhat to rehearse

Compare positionsName a benefit and a limitation fairly, then recommend an option.
Ask or clarifyPrecise questions, follow-up conditions and confirmation.

These are original FKE practice scenes, not TCF samples. Some scenes are Free and others require Companion; each link opens the exact topic and shows its current access.

A small practice example

Instead of memorising a model answer, practise the decision sequence:

Les deux points de vue ont un objectif valable. Le premier insiste sur…, tandis que le second rappelle que… Pour ma part, je choisirais…, parce que…

Replace the topic, evidence and recommendation with your own response to an original FKE scene.

Keep the versions separate

TCF Tout public, TCF Canada and TCF IRN are not interchangeable. Confirm the selected version with France Éducation international, its official sample hub and your test centre before using any timing or word-count target.
